There are many types of wallets. When shopping for a leather wallet we tend to look for comfort and functionality. Wallets should make it easy for us to find our money, pictures, credit cards, membership cards, business cards, etc. Generally the main factor in determining which wallet to get is the organization, practicality and ease of accessibility.Although wallets are in our pockets for most of the time, they can still be stylish. The below are the top styles of wallets that people carry.

We asked, "Which type of leather wallet do you carry the most?"

Top 5 men's wallets are:

1. Bifold Men's Wallets - 22% of men carry a bifold wallet and it is considered the most popular wallet. A bifold wallet is a type of wallet in which the bills are folded over once. Credit cards and identification cards may be stored horizontally or vertically.

2. Credit Card Holder - Our survey revealed that 12% of our visitors carry a credit card case. For example, a lot of men will a carry a gusseted credit card holder for their ID and credit cards and then stick folded cash in the gusset pocket. A popular credit card holder.

3. Trifold Wallets - 11% of men carry a wallet with two folds, in which credit cards are generally stored vertically.

4. Tied for 4th: Zipper Wallets & Money Clip Wallet - zipper wallets are carried by 10% of men and they have a bifold design with the added security of a zip closure. Example of a popular men's zippered wallets. Money clip wallet is a popular style at 10% for the minimal amount of stuff to carry in your wallet.

5. Chain Wallet - Many love the look of a chain dangling on the side of the pants, others like them for the security they provide of not leaving your wallet behind. 5% prefer carrying a chain wallet over any other wallet.

We found it interesting that 4% of the people who visited WalletGear do not even carry a wallet.

Are We Organized When It Comes To Our Money?

We took an informal poll at WalletGear and asked our visitors if all their bills in their wallet have to face the same direction.

We learned some people will organize each set of bills according to value (1's, 5's, 10's, etc) and face the same direction. Some say this method wouldn't save them time, but others have been doing it this way their whole life and wouldn't change.

So how many people organize their bills this way? 82% of people polled versus 18% who do not organize their bills this way.

Obsessive compulsiveness showing through? Maybe, but definitely, it turns out, something most people like to do.

Wallets Carried More in Back Pockets Than Front Pockets

Out of 1427 people surveyed 54% prefer carrying their wallet in their back pocket. While only 34% carry them in their front pocket. Carrying your wallet in your front pocket can have benefits such as harder to pick pocket and not sitting on your wallet all the time.

Front pocket wallets are usually slimmer and they make you only carry only the necessary items you need in a minimalist way. Using a front pocket wallet will help you when you are on a budget. They're slimmer and smaller in design which will reduce the amount of cash and cards you will be able to carry. The style of these wallets are in trend with the slim to your figure clothing that is all the rage. However it may be a while before they catch up to wallets carried in men's back pants pockets.

Consumers Not Ditching Their Wallets for Mobile Wallets

Phones are used as cameras, tell time, and in some instances can be used to make purchases. The clock on the mobile phone was to replace the wristwatch, the camera phone to replace cameras, and now phones to replace your wallet. However none of these have or will happen for good. The phone will never make a statement like a fine wristwatch can while wearing it. A phone will never take the quality of a picture a digital camera can take. And for many reasons the phone will never replace the wallet.

According to over 500 visitors (536 to be exact) who participated in our survey, 90% will keep their leather wallets instead of ditching it for mobile payments. 204 (38%) just flat out said "No" to getting rid of their leather wallet. Their top concern was security. Only 10% were likely to abandon their wallet for mobile payments. 90% will be keeping their good old leather wallets to carry their ID, credit cards, and cash.

A major reason why mobile payments will not take off is that the current electronic payments system works just fine. It works really well. You can take out a card, swipe it and in an instant can transmit funds to a merchant. Payment by phone gets more complicated in the area of usability.

In order to use a mobile phone to make a purchase, first the store you would like to buy something at has to be set up to accept your particular mobile payment plan app. If it does then you pull out your phone, you wake it up from sleep, unlock it, find your mobile app, enter another password to get into the app, swipe the phone, make the purchase, and then verify payment. Lines would be out the door waiting for each person to make a purchase like this. Oh and to make a payment happen your battery better be charged. If you ditched your wallet or have a cracked screen how are you going to get home, pay for coffee, etc. when your battery is dead?

If you do choose to use mobile payments,remember that some smartphone applications can transmit personal information, so be cautious about storing any sensitive information on your phone. Don’t store your credit card details, for example. And don’t download applications that may be untrustworthy.
